WASHINGTON, DC —  With more than 55,000 jobs available in the trucking industry Indeed, in collaboration with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes, TransForce Group, and Troops Into Transportation, is launching a new initiative.

Drive for 500 will provide 500 full-ride CDL training scholarships through TransForce Group’s Troops Into Transportation Master Driving Program.
“We’re always looking for opportunities to help more people get jobs and find ways to shorten the duration of the job search,” said Matthew Jensen, senior director, global government relations and public policy, Indeed. “With Drive for 500, we’re honored to support the military community in their entry to the high demand and critical ground transportation industry.

The scholarships are open to veterans, military spouses, and members of the National Guard and Reserve. With no strings attached, all costs, except meals and incidental expenses, are covered.

Drive for 500 will work closely with President Biden’s recent initiative to expand and improve trucking jobs nationwide. Chaired by former Congressman and veteran Patrick Murphy, Task Force Movement: Life-Cycle Pathways for Veterans and Military into Trucking, is specifically focused on the recruitment and retention of members of the military community into the trucking industry.

“The reason why President Biden created Task Force Movement is because it requires a public and private partnership to address the nationwide shortage of truck drivers. Drive for 500 is the first step in closing this gap. It will attract and train veterans and their family members by connecting them to high-demand, high-paying jobs in the trucking industry,” said Hon. Patrick Murphy, chair of Task Force Movement.

“We collectively can solve the challenges our transportation industry is facing, and we can help them find some of the very best employees with our military-connected community,” said Eric Eversole, president, of Hiring Our Heroes and vice president, U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
More than 500 employers are participating in this effort to connect our veterans and their family members with high-demand, high-paying transportation careers.

“Our Drive for 500 partnership with Indeed and Hiring Our Heroes is an incredible opportunity to train and help more veterans and their families - a core value we all share,” said Al Hanley, founder of Troops Into Transportation, a TransForce Group program. Hanley also serves as president of education and training for TransForce Group.
