The 5 Best I-95 Rest Stops

There are over 75 rest area locations on I-95 between Florida and Maine. Whether you’re driving from Orlando to Washington, DC or from New Hampshire to Fayetteville, NC, you’ll find lots of great options for everything from a quick bathroom break to an overnight stay with fast food, gas, and gift shops.

Delaware Welcome Center

With over 150 reviews on TripAdvisor, this rest stop is a favorite for many travelers. It has large, clean restrooms, many fast food and coffee options, and a gift shop. It is accessible from both the northbound and southbound sides of I-95, so it’s often busy with drivers and tourists..

Johnston County Rest Area

If you just need a clean restroom and a place to walk your dog, this North Carolina rest stop at mile marker 99 is ideal. It doesn’t have a lot of amenities like restaurants or fuel stations, but it’s got plenty of space for truckers to sleep or rest for several hours before getting back on the road.

Carson Safety Rest Area

This is a favorite amongst travelers in Virginia. It has beautiful natural landscaping, room to exercise your pets or take a walk. The restrooms are clean and well-maintained. And the vending machines are always stocked.

Chesapeake House Travel Plaza

Located at mile marker 97 in Maryland, this 30,000 square-foot facility features food from Earl of Sandwich, Pizza Hut, KFC, Wendy's, Peet's Coffee and Tea and Auntie Anne's. It also has a convenience store and a Sunoco fuel station.

Georgia Welcome Center

This rest stop has over 6,000 reviews on Google, and people are raving about it. It has clean restrooms, picnic areas, dog-walking areas, and stocked vending machines. The staff are also friendly, and the displays are fun and informative.

Can you park overnight at rest stops?

As a truck driver, you can stay overnight at rest stops. Many rest stops limit the number of hours private vehicles can stay, but when you are a commercial driver and subject to Hours of Service regulations, you can stay for up to ten hours at any rest stop

Can Google Maps show rest areas?

If you are using Google Maps for navigation, you can use it to find rest stops along your route. Simply select “search along route” and search for rest areas. The app will display rest area locations along the route you are driving.

This is a great feature in a pinch, but the best practice is to plan your rest stops and fuel stations ahead of time during your route planning. This enables you to plan your route efficiently and make sure you can stop at your favorite rest areas, truck stops, and gas stations. If you neglect to plan your route efficiently, you may end up at a sub-par rest stop or an expensive gas station
