A New Year, a Healthier You

A new year is a great opportunity to focus on your health, especially when life on the road makes routines harder to maintain. You do not need a complete lifestyle overhaul to make a difference. Small, consistent habits can go a long way.

Here are three simple ways to prioritize your health in 2026.

Schedule an Annual Checkup

DOT physicals are required every two years, but a lot can change in between. Making time for an annual checkup can help catch issues early and keep you feeling your best on and off the road. Think of it as routine maintenance for your body, just like you would do for your truck.

If it has been a while, consider scheduling that appointment and getting it on the calendar.

Make Smarter Food Choices

Eating healthy on the road can be challenging, but small swaps still matter. When fast food is the easiest option, look for grilled items instead of fried. Choose lean proteins like turkey or chicken when available. Skip heavy sauces like mayo and opt for mustard or lighter options instead.

If you can, replace fries with fruit or vegetables, choose smaller portions, and stick with water, unsweetened tea, or low sugar drinks. These habits work just as well at home and on the road.

Stay Active While Traveling

Exercise on the road does not have to mean a full workout routine. Simple movement adds up. Resistance bands, water bottles, or even canned goods can be used for light strength exercises. During breaks, try walking laps around your truck or the parking area.

For reference, about 32 laps around a standard tractor trailer is roughly one mile. Fitness apps and online videos can also be helpful, many of them free and easy to follow wherever you are.

A New Year, a Healthier You

Your health is one of the most important things you carry with you on the road. Taking small steps now can help you feel stronger, more energized, and ready for whatever the year brings.

Here’s to a healthy and successful 2026.
